چکیده

We have undertaken toward 30 Mira or semi-regular variables and one OH/IR object highly sensitive observations of the v = 1, J = 2 → 1 and 3 → 2 transitions of SiO simultaneously with observations of the J = 2 → 1 transition of CO during three observing sessions in the period 1995 to 1996. As in our previous observations of 1994, we observe that for several stars the SiO profiles exhibit unusually broad wings which sometimes exceed the terminal velocity of the expanding circumstellar envelope traced by the thermal CO emission. We have discovered a clear dependence of the SiO wing emission on the optical phase. These wings are probably due to peculiar gas motions and varying physical conditions in relation with the stellar pulsation. However, we cannot exclude other mechanisms contributing to the observed wings. In particular, SiO turbulent motions for the semi-regular variables or the asymmetric mass loss mechanism may play a role. We conclude that the SiO wing emission is due to masing processes and that this emission very likely arises from the inner part of the circumstellar envelope.

Relation of SiO maser emission to IR radiation in evolved stars based on the MSX observation

Based on the space MSX observation in bands A(8μm), C(12μm), D(15μm) and E(21μm), and the ground SiO maser observation of evolved stars by the Nobeyama 45-m telescope in the v=1 and v=2 J=1-0 transitions, the relation between SiO maser emission and mid-IR continuum radiation is analyzed. The relation between SiO maser emission and the IR radiation in the MSX bands A, C, D and E is all clearly c...

SiO , 29 SiO and 30 SiO excitation : effects of infrared line overlaps

We have investigated the influence of several line overlaps between 28 SiO , 29 SiO and 30 SiO on maser emission from the envelopes of late-type stars using the Large Velocity Gradient radiative transfer formalism modified to account for overlaps. Our model includes: (i) 40 rotational levels for each of the v = 0 to 4 vibrational states and each isotopic species; (ii) collisions with molecular ...

A VLBI polarization study of SiO masers towards VY CMa

Maser emission from the SiO molecule has been widely observed in the nearcircumstellar envelopes of late-type, evolved stars. VLBI images can resolve individual SiO maser spots, providing information about the kinematics and magnetic field in the extended atmospheres of these stars. This poster presents full polarization images of several SiO maser lines towards the supergiant star VY CMa. VY C...

GHz SiO maser survey of late - type stars in the Inner Galaxy ⋆ , ⋆ ⋆ , ⋆ ⋆ ⋆ , † I . Observational data

We present 86 GHz (v = 1, J = 2 → 1) SiO maser line observations with the IRAM 30-m telescope of a sample of 441 late-type stars in the Inner Galaxy (−4 < l < +30). These stars were selected on basis of their infrared magnitudes and colours from the ISOGAL and MSX catalogues. SiO maser emission was detected in 271 sources, and their line-of-sight velocities indicate that the stars are located i...

Maser Emission from Sio Isotopologues Traces the Innermost 100 Au around Radio Source I in Orion Bn/kl

We have used the Very Large Array (VLA) at 7 mm wavelength to image five rotational transitions (J = 1 − 0) from three SiO isotopologues towards Orion BN/KL: SiO v = 0, 1, 2; and SiO and SiO v = 0. For the first time, we have mapped the SiO and SiO J = 1− 0 emission, established the maser nature of the emission, and confirmed association with the deeply embedded high-mass young stellar object c...
